Profile: With one of the top rated school districts in the state, it’s easy to understand why so many young families are flocking to Peoria. Local news about the city, schools and area happenings are especially important to this fast-changing community. Excellent recreational amenities, a thriving business community and home to the Peoria Sports Complex (the spring home to the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners) all combine to make Peoria attractive to year-round citizens and visiting tourists. The Peoria Independent has been serving the city since 1999. A weekly newspaper focusing on the local news of Peoria, the Independent is home-delivered each week to 15,000 homes in three distinct rotating zones (North, Central and South Peoria). Over the course of three weeks, the newspaper reaches 45,000 homes throughout the city.

Our Purpose The Peoria Independent is owned by a unique trust that enables this newspaper to pursue a mission of journalistic service to the citizens of the community. Since no dividends are paid, the company is able to thrive on profit margins below industry standards. All after-tax surpluses are reinvested in Independent’s mission of journalistic service, commitment to the ideals of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and support of the community’s deliberation of public issues.
