Profile: The Okeechobee News covers Okeechobee County, Florida. Okeechobee County sits like a top hat perched at the northern tip of the second largest freshwater lake totally within the confines of the United States. This is an agriculture-based county located in the heartland of South Central Florida. Beef cattle ranching is the county's oldest industry and Okeechobee County leads the state in beef production. Okeechobee County also leads the state in dairy cattle. Another fast growing segment of the county's agricultural community is citrus production.

Tourism is the second largest industry in the county, and each winter thousands of northern residents head to Okeechobee County seeking relief from the cold and to enjoy fishing the waters of Lake Okeechobee. The lake is abundant in bass, bream and black crappie. Catfish from Lake Okeechobee are served at restaurants throughout the Southern United States.

The Okeechobee News is the oldest and most respected news medium for our area. The Okeechobee News is proud to have covered Okeechobee County's colorful history for more than 83 years.

Our Purpose The Okeechobee News is published by Independent Newspapers of Delmarva.
