PROFILE: Located in Milford, the fourth largest city in Delaware, the Milford Chronicle is a true reflection of this growing community. Approximately 20,000 people live within a 5-mile radius of the city. The population is primarily between 18-64, but the percentage of retirees has increased significantly in the last few years. Once a shipbuilding town, Milford enjoys a diversified economy of food processing, textile, chemical and rubber products, fabricated metal products, millwork, electrical industrial apparatus, construction and agricultural businesses. The service sector

is large with such concerns as the hospital, education system, job training and vocational rehabilitation centers included. Milford is within 100 miles of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia

and Baltimore and only a short 25 minute drive to the Delaware beaches.

Since 1848, 11 different weekly publications have been published in Milford, but only the Chronicle, founded in 1878, has survived to keep area residents informed of all the local news. The Milford Chronicle's distribution area includes not only Milford proper, but the surrounding communities of Ellendale, Felton, Frederica, Greenwood, Lincoln and Milton.

Our Purpose The Milford Chronicle is published by Independent Newspapers of Delmarva. Independent is owned by a unique trust that enables this newspaper to pursue a mission of journalistic service to the citizens of the community. Since no dividends are paid, the company is able to thrive on profit margins below industry standards. All after-tax surpluses are reinvested in Independent’s mission of journalistic service, commitment to the ideals of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and support of the community’s deliberation of public issues.
