PROFILE: Headquartered in Dover, the state's capital, the Delaware State News is the dominant daily newspaper in Downstate Delaware. More than any other medium, residents rely on the seven-day morning newspaper for their news and information.

The Delaware State News distribution area includes Delaware's Kent County, Sussex County, lower New Castle County and swings west to cover Maryland's upper Eastern Shore in Kent, Queen Anne's and Caroline counties.

In Kent County, Delaware, the fast-growing Dover metro area has a population of 122,000 and is a shopping mecca for the entire Delmarva Peninsula. Central Delaware maintains a small town flavor while enjoying a rapidly expanding economy. The area is the home to many industries, including Kraft General Foods, General Metalcraft, Inc., Hanover Foods Corp., PPG Industries, Playtex Products, Reichhold Chemicals and Procter & Gamble. Dover is within 90 minutes of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Baltimore and only 45 minutes from the Delaware beaches.

In Sussex County, the Delaware beach market is growing fast, particularly inland from the coast. In the past decade no other portion of Delaware can compare to its spectacular boom. The lure of the coast is the magnet. Every summer the population triples as visitors from the Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. megalopolis pour into the attractive seaside resorts and towns. A diverse array of special services, small boutiques and boardwalk shops have sprung up to meet their needs. Recently, many new shopping centers have opened along the major routes leading into the area, including the nation's 6th largest outlet shopping center. The resort towns of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach are about 90 minutes from Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
